Mom and I went to a wedding tonight for two of our good friends, Greg and Kennedy. They were at our wedding and I am pretty sure that they spent more money on flowers than we did on our entire wedding. It was beautiful. If you are a girl, it is the kind of wedding you and mom will wish for when you get married. If you are a boy...you could care less. Either way, it was a beautiful evening, but also an evening where mom really started to realize you are "on your way."
In the years past, we could hang with the best of them. Stay out until the sun comes up. But tonight, your mom was ready to call it a night at least two hours before the fun really started. The good news is that she was not the only one. We found other pregnant couples in the crowd of 280 people that wanted to leave as early as we did. We caught the first bus out with the older people and the pregnant mom's. We both wanted to stay longer but you really did not want us to stay.
Tonight was a good example of how you have already changed our lives. In the years to come you will be all that we focus on. We are aware of that, and ready for it, but tonight was the first time it really hit home for me. Our life has changed because of you and you don't even mean to change it.
Mom went to get her hair and makeup done for the first and only time since our wedding, and she looked gorgeous. In the end, it was not the preparation that threw me for a loop, but her obvious bump. She still feels "fat" but that is not even true. Your mom looks like your mom right now. She has that glow about her and that "bump" that people talk about. At the moment, you are the size of an avocado, but to us you are HUGE...in a good way.
I can't wait to meet you. Mom has been amazing this entire time. When you are a pain to her, I will put you in your place because she definitely does not deserve any less than a "thank you."
I love you and mom equally...just don't make me pick one or the other.
Love Dad.
